This Year’s Award Winners
Nielsen BookData in partnership with BolognaBookPlus celebrated the annual Bestseller Awards on the 22nd of January 2024 at the Ham Yard Hotel in Piccadilly. Amongst the prize-winners were Richard Osman, Sally Rooney, Miriam Margolyes, and Elif Shafak. As ever, the evening was a celebration of outstanding book sales, and was attended by authors, publishing industry professionals and journalists, and the ceremony was presented by comedian and author Shaparak Khorsandi.
Based on UK sales volumes, the awards honoured authors whose books had surpassed phenomenal sales thresholds - Silver (250,000 sales), Gold (500,000 sales), and Platinum (1,000,000 sales). Twenty-two titles were awarded Silver, Gold or Platinum status on this occasion.
Overall, 199m print books were bought in the UK in 2023, with a value £1.83bn, via Nielsen BookScan UK Total Consumer Market. The sales accrued by bestsellers have contributed to another robust year for the book industry, and it is a privilege to be able to power and host such a wonderful celebration.
